Junior doctors 5-day strike to start soon

The strike will commence on Monday 12 September and end on Friday 16 September. The strikes will cover the hours 08:00 to 17:00 each day. The strikes is as a result of the dispute over the Government’s changes to Junior Doctors contracts.

Meetings are expected to take place between the doctors representatives and the Government to try and resolve the dispute. Jeremy Hunt is reported as describing the latest strike as ‘devastating’. Junior doctors had rejected the Government’s deal in July despite the British Medical Association (BMA) describing it as a good deal for doctors.

The BBC has reported that confidential documents from the BMA indicate there could be 5 days of strikes every month for the rest of 2016. The strike has been reported by many outlets as the worst strike in NHS history and it may result in up to 5000 operations being cancelled.
